as Citizen of the 19th-Century

Overview

Abraham Lincoln was the “Great Emancipator,” and while that was a crucial role of Lincoln during this century, Lincoln had a long career that spanned many critical topics throughout the 19th-century.  While Lincoln may not have been the most prominent figure during these events, he did live through them and provide eyewitness accounts and additional deeper insight into these developments.

The goal of this website is to provide a platform for further document-based learning about Abraham Lincoln and the times he lived through in 19th-century America.  Also, this site focuses on providing a launch pad for materials for easy access to students about important concepts and events of the 19th century and the relationship of Lincoln and his documents to these concepts.  Additionally, this site seeks to make suggestions to teachers on how to incorporate these materials into their lessons.
